Visiting Black Cat Alley
Black Cat Alley—a one-block alley known for its street art murals—is one of the highlights in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
It is one of the more unique places I’ve visited in the United States. And although you can’t say it’s a hole-in-the-wall attraction, it’s literally a hidden gem (alley?).
Here are some photos of what to expect when visiting Black Cat Alley.

Cat Cafe
Quite possibly the inspiration for the alley’s name (the cafe’s logo is literally a black cat), the Sip & Purr Cat Cafe lies right next to the alley’s entrance.
The idea is simple: enjoy some coffee and snacks in the company of adorable cats. Basically, you sip and they purr.
Understandably, appointments must be made prior to entry.
Magnificent Murals
The alley features a variety of art, varying from depictions of nature to the purely abstract.
Animals represent a common theme throughout the alley.
Of course, the most famous work of art features actual cats.
It was far from what I expected, but the work truly captured the essence of pissed-off and shady-looking cats that would indeed live in an alley. They judge you from a distance, hiss at you disapprovingly, and, most importantly, they just don’t give a shit.
One of my favorite murals is Cosmic Knowledge.
To be honest, I have no idea what the mural is called. I just randomly named it.
Of course, there are many other excellent murals featured throughout the alley.
Black Cat Alley offers a unique, artistic, and rewarding experience. Tucked away in a small alley in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this hidden gem provides a great deal of artistic fun and enjoyment in a short amount of time. It’s also free to visit.
