Falls Park’s Story
The story of Fall’s Park is a story of water. For the majority of Post Falls’s history, its economic development centered around the falls, the river, and the agricultural canals. Frederick Post, the city’s founder, wanted to harness the hydroelectric power of the falls, and that function continues to this day.
In 1879, Frederick Post made a land deal with the Couer d’Alene tribe. He then built the first Post Falls dam on this site.
Falls Park, located in the city of Post Falls, “represents a community coming together with a vision and turning that vision into a reality.”
Many businesses, organizations, and community volunteers donated and contributed to the creating Falls Park—a park centered around the Spokane River and nearby falls. The park was opened in the spring of 2003.
Falls Park Landscape
Much of the region’s development centers around the river and dams. A 34-mile irrigation canal once used the historic headgate. Throughout the park, pieces of these historic items can be found.
The park is incredibly scenic, and there is even a fishing pond toward the center.
The best feature of the park is the view of the Spokane River and, of course, the falls themselves.
Best of all, since Falls Park is en route to the incredible Coeur d’Alene, it’s naturally a great destination and a great way to start the day.
Falls Park is one of the hidden gems in the Coeur d’Alene region. This hidden gem offers a lovely, small, and quiet getaway.
These photos are so good! It’s better than most parks I know! Where is this?
Gotta say I like places like this a lot. Most people only go over major destinations and attractions you know? It’s hard to find hidden gems that way. Love the dedication you put into giving these places some love.
I know we don’t have fancy skyscrapers and all the glitz and glamor and whatnot but our nature is good stuff. Glad you like our corner of the states!
Greetings from Iowa!
Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Mostly because I notice you put a lot of effort into pretty niche things as well that no one seems to care about. That attention to detail is admirable. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a really good article…
Thank you. Although I cover major and popular places as well, I like to give the underrated places some coverage. I think Idaho in general is a hugely underrated state.
