Where and How to Find the Blue Domes of Santorini

You can click on any photo to scroll through all other photos. It is possible to find the location using only the photos, but it will make more sense if you read the instructions.

Anastasi Church’s Blue Domes is Santorini’s most famous attraction, and they are widely recognized on postcards, magnets, and posters all over the world.

There is only one perfect location—impeccably positioned on the caldera edge against a background that unites the surrounding structures with the sea and sky.

In the following sections, I will cover where and how to find these famous blue domes.

Note: This page is related to the Santorini Adventure Guide. The main Santorini Guide has an overview of the Santorini region (attractions, adventurous activities, and food, among others).

Where to Find the Blue Domes

To start, I include the GPS coordinates for the blue domes location.

Longitude Latitude
36.4613760 25.3759135

You can also literally type in “blue dome photo” and Google Maps will show you the spot. However, GPS directions to the domes can be quite confusing and unreliable (the GPS will literally tell you to walk through walls to get to the domes).

So, unless you’re gifted with the ability to phase through walls, you’ll have to find Anastasi Church’s blue domes the normal way.

How to Find the Blue Domes: Step by Step

1) Find the Panagia Platsani (Church). Your GPS can actually guide you to the large church because it’s in an easily-accessed area. As an added reference, the church is about a minute walk from the Oia bus terminal.

Important: when you face the church, it should look exactly as shown in the photo—with the six bells on the LEFT side. This is the most crucial step, so make sure you’re in the right spot.

2) Turn your back to the church and face the opposite direction. The church (shown in the large blue oval) is behind the starting position.

3) Walk forward as much as possible and turn right.

4) Keep walking. As you walk you should see one blue dome to your left (shown in the small blue oval).

5) Walk until you see the intersection of Alexandros Jewelry and 49 Gold & Silver.
6) Turn LEFT at this intersection.

7) Once you make the left turn, you should see a structure with three bells.

8) Just keep going and curving RIGHT when you see a fork in the road. The path is straightforward (it’s your only path). You should be passing the three bells (shown in the first blue oval).

The half cylinder structure (shown in the second blue oval) is the reference point where you will stop. In the photo at the top of the page, you can see that I am standing on the cylindrical structure.

9) The domes should be right in front of you. You should see three domes (two big domes and one small dome), and the small dome should have a bell underneath.

10) Take your perfect photo by moving around a bit. For my photo, I walked forward to get a closer view. There are multiple vantage points for you to test.

Around noon, there is plenty of lighting, but the brightness might light up the whitewashed structures too much. Around the evening (the time when I took the photo), the lighting is less intense. Either time is good if you know what kind of photo you want. Now that you know the way, you can even go during noon and evening.

Remember that much of the area is private property, so you might be blocked by some gates.
